If you’re shopping for a new SUV with rugged performance capabilities, your top two contenders may be the 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and the 2025 Jeep Wrangler. Choosing between the plug-in hybrid variant and the flagship gas model may depend on how often you travel, your eco-friendly priorities, and the standard features you need for everyday convenience.

The main difference between this year’s Wrangler models can be found under the hood. The gas-powered Wrangler is outfitted with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain is married to a six-speed manual transmission and a four-wheel drivetrain. Drivers can customize the Wrangler by upgrading to the available 2.0-liter I4 turbocharged engine for greater efficiency.

The Wrangler 4xe, on the other hand, is powered by a 2.0-liter I4 PHEV motor that offers an output of 270 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque. This plug-in hybrid powertrain is matched with a standard four-wheel drivetrain and an eight-speed automatic transmission for well-rounded performance in all driving conditions.

Efficiency and Performance

As you might expect, the Wrangler 4xe offers more efficiency than the gas model. The Wrangler 4xe has an estimated all-electric driving range of 21 miles, which is perfect for running errands around town without relying on gas power. The total driving range when the PHEV engine is fully active is 370 miles. The Wrangler 4xe also has an estimated combined mileage of 49 MPGe.

The gas-powered two-door Wrangler, on the other hand, has an estimated fuel economy of 17 MPG in urban areas and 23 MPG on the freeway. Four-door Wrangler models get 16 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the interstate. As a note, the two-door Wrangler has a towing capacity of 2,000 lbs, while the four-door Wrangler and the Wrangler 4xe each tow up to 3,500 lbs.

Exterior Features

The Jeep Wrangler offers more customization options for key exterior features. Most Wrangler models are available with a two-door or four-door configuration, while Wrangler 4xe models are only available with four-door configurations. Drivers who prioritize off-road performance, easier parking, and Jeep’s iconic style may prefer the two-door gas-powered Wrangler.

Each Wrangler model performs well in off-road and on-road driving environments. While the Wrangler 4xe offers enhanced efficiency, the gas-powered Wrangler has more customization options. Reserve your favorite model at Snethkamp Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Gaylord in Gaylord, MI.
