Your RAM can carry and pull the heaviest loads, but it works most efficiently when regularly serviced. Our technicians can identify and repair minor issues so they don’t become serious, potentially expensive problems. As your local RAM dealer, we’d like to advise you on some of the RAM maintenance we provide when you regularly haul heavy loads.
Cooling System Service
Your engine generates large amounts of heat due to combustion and the movement of countless components. The heat has to be removed, as it can damage seals, gaskets, and other sensitive engine systems. The cooling system uses coolant, a mixture of antifreeze and water, to remove engine heat. The heat is absorbed in the coolant and transported to the radiator, where it’s removed by heat exchange.
When regularly towing, your engine works harder to provide the additional power needed to tow a load. This generates more heat, and a cooling system service will ensure the system works efficiently and this heat is quickly and safely removed. During a service, we test all cooling system components and replace the coolant.
Brake System Service
Healthy brakes give you complete control over your speed at all times, allowing you to easily stop whenever you want. As time passes, brake components wear out or become damaged due to heat, pressure, and normal wear and tear. Efficient brakes are even more important when towing, as their additional weight means your vehicle will take longer to stop.
Our technicians check all brake components for damage and test they’re working correctly. Brake pads are examined and replaced if needed to ensure they provide the friction that forces your wheels to a stop. The brake fluid is replaced as new fluid provides increased hydraulic power.
Tire Check
Good tire tread is essential, as the tread grips the surface and provides the traction needed for safe driving. Tread wears down over time due to this surface friction, and lower tread increases stopping distances and slows braking. In addition, tire rubber slowly loses its innate flexibility, and this can cause it to crack and leak.
Correct inflation is also important, as underinflated tires sag downward, exposing the softer sidewalls to friction damage. In contrast, overinflated tires curl upward the edges, placing more strain on the center of the tread and causing extra wear and tear. Our technicians will examine your tires, and if necessary, we can replace them so you can drive safely.
